FC5 vs Mandriva 2006

Is there any differences, which one is better for game performance and internet surfing and video playing?

Why would one choose Mandriva 2006 over Fedora 5 or vice versa. Which sets these distros apart? Isnt Fedora 5 Redhat?

You have to pay to get Red Hat stuff. Fedora Core is based off of red hat.

As far as Mandriva 2006 vs. Fedora Core 5 goes, Fedora Core 5 is newer (I think). For game performance, internet surfing, and video playing... well, all distros are good for internet surfing. Just check which one has your wireless card supported if you can't compile modules yourself. Game performance and video playing will really depend on if the distro supports your video card and 3d rendering. As far as both goes for 3d rendering: Mandrake, you might have to pay to get the driver, and Fedora Core, you will have to get it yourself if the driver is propriatary.

If I would choose, I'd go with Fedora Core 5, but it would only be because "beagle" sounds like a nice application (fedora has it)

You don't have to pay to get the driver. You can download and install it yourself.

I would say try both distros and stick with the one you like because they are both good.

I would agree with reddazz.
Plus there is a distribution forum for this kind of question.
Finally websurfing you can choose whatever and install whatever browser.

How do you define this?
Which one has cedega? Which one has most games? Which one...

internet surfing??
security?
anonimity?
rendering speed?
latest browser? you will need to update it yourself anyway

soulxcavtor, you have been around long enough to ask better questions.
(No offence, I just say that because I have seen to much rambling about distro rcently)
It is about freedom, trying and testing. Your criteria are unlikely
to be the same of that of x or y

BTW there are distro just about gaming, one of them in Spain (juegalinux or something)

I say "pay", but it entirely depends on the person's skills with linux. A newbie might have a hard time to install the Atheros drivers (for example) and prefer to pay, while a linux user that's been around will just grab the CVS and install it no problem.

Perhaps, what I should have said is, Mandriva won't provide certain drivers unless you pay.
