failed to send 'clear' to local ypserv: RPC:Program not registered

Hi

When I issue /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m command to generate the maps that ypserv is going to use,I get about ten lines of

*failed to send 'clear' to local ypserv: RPC:Program not registered Updating...*

and in the end I get *now you can run ypinit...*

It appears the ypserver is working fine, but that's maybe cos Im only doing the basic stuff and nothing more advanced.

what could that messages mean?

thank you

bye

i'm trying to configure nis server on RHEL 5,when i run the command:
/usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m
its says failed to send 'clear' to local ypserv: RPC : Unknown hostUpdating passwd.byuid....

the result of this , when i try to restart ypbind service , it searches for nis server and fails...

Somebody please help

This page shows a good howto do NIS. Just ignore the bit about how to download the sw; use your normal method eg yum for RHEL5.

Hello,

You should do

/etc/init.d/ypserv status
/etc/init.d/ypserv start
chkconfig ypserv on

then
/usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m

!!!!!!!!!! Thank You !!!!!!!!!
