Question error: C compiler cannot create executables

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Whenever I try to install something I get the error message that my compiler, gcc, cannot create executables. Then I am unable to get any further from there. I am running Lindows 4.0.579.

Are you logged in or su'ed to root? You can "configure" ,and "make" as a regular user but "make install" has to be done by root.

What is su'ed? I am a newbie, sorry, I did not understand what you said. Could you please clarify? I have been using linux for less than a week now.

Open up the terminal. At the $ enter su. You will be required to then enter the root password. su stands for super user.
