Question Dual boot - Windows Vista & Slackware Question

Hi,

I have Windows Vista already installed on a 512 gig drive and another 150 gig drive with a previous install of windows XP on it as a secondary drive.

My question is, if I install linux onto this secondary drive should the dual boot be then setup automatically when booting up? I thought about just going into the BIOS selecting the second drive to boot first, and do the install of Linux. Do you think this would work? or is it to be more complex than this!?

Many thanks

Hi, all you need to do is boot up the install CD, there,at some point, you will be asked on which disk you want to install Slackware. Then, during the bootloader installation phase, you will be asked on which disk you want GRUB/LILO installed, or whether you want it in the MBR or not. When the bootloader is installed, it should be correctly configured for dualboot.
There is absolutely no need to go fiddling around with BIOS boot options.

Hi,

Slackware will use 'lilo' as the default boot loader. 'grub' is available in '/extra'.

'lilo' can be installed to the 'MBR' of your disk. If you want to use your "BIOS' boot option as your boot device selection then that is another way. Just install 'lilo' to the superblock of the Slackware install.
