Mandriva &Vista dual boot question

Hi!

I installed Mandriva one from the live CD and choose GRUB as bootloader. When i rebooted there was a GRUB error 2. But i was wondering, do i need a bootloader to dual boot vista and mandriva or is there an intergrated one in vista so it does automatically. Cuz i want to first install vista and then mandriva without and gub or lilo bootloader. Will it be possible? thnx in advance!

the general opinion is to install MS first and then install Linux second.

you have many options for bootloaders but for speed purposes they are limited to either

install grub into mbr and it has a menu option that chainloads to the ms bootloader ...it may still be called ntldr?

install grub into the / partition of the linux partition and have the ms bootloader chainload to the grub bootloader

3) choose lilo or another linux bootloader to do similar

4) choose a bootloader on a cd to boot a partition why not? ...too slow.

My tutorial gives you some concepts if you prefer grub and if Mandriva did not immediately succeed once you start again.

the good news is that a live cd can be used to rescue your bootloader....woo hoo.

good luck with your choices.

to be blunt I suggest you install ms....defrag it ....use a live cd to resize it....install Linux....install grub to mbr to have menu options for both os.
