Dual Boot --- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Windows XP
Im sorry for this thread, yes i know there is one already im sure but , wtf, i cant solve this mistery how to do that ??? I read i dont know 6-7 tutorials , articles , howto ... Ok so, i installed red hat , loader is starting , everything is fine , yea i see in menu Other(windows xp) , red hat linux 5 . It seems GRUB loader is installed , right ? So i press enter (on linux or windows) , after that enter my monitor goes power save , i cant wake up him ,Its turned off , nothing , computer is working but monitor nothing. So i tryed restart ,nothing again black screen on monitor ( yea i checked cables and all physical stuff). And that "Boot Loader Installer" when im installing i cant choose either LILO or GRUB , i dont have that at all http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...ootloader.html
For example , this screen . Yea i know this is other version (Red Hat Linux 9) but still
Ok it seems its somthing wrong with installation , with CD's . I cant even open red hat (i have on other disk windows xp and on other linux so i turned off that with windows xp and tried to get in Linux but nothing again ,black screen) I think it must be installation.

Can you boot with a live CD, and give the output of:
Code:
fdisk -l
A USB stick or good old floppy might be useful here to get the output off.
Also, if you could mount the partition (probably /dev/hda1 or /dev/sda1) and post the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst that would help. Let me know if you need to know how to mount the drive.
Uhm, should i go to that text mode on the beginning (in GRUB loader) ? And then write that there . Oh i get it , so i should install red hat under kernel mode (that text mode) and adjust everything there . I'll give it a try , Thx m8.

Nah, make it nice and easy - whack a live CD in and let the computer get its act together and give you a graphical desktop and all that stuff. Yeah, these are the technical terms. :-)
A live CD is one that doesn't install, it just runs and doesn't stuff about with anything already on the computer - unless you tell it to.
Look around in the menus and start up a terminal, then type that stuff in. If it comes to it, write down the output of the commands on that highly technical graphical interface known as pen and paper, then type it up *grin*
Freezeburn991 off hand i would guess ( not being able to look at the output of " fdisk -l "
and "grub.conf" . That grub is looking for the os on the wrong partition?
also i take it ( just guessing) that grub was installed on the System MBR .Replacing the MS windows bootloader .

yes , replace " rhgb quite " with " 3 " to the boot string
this will boot into text only
or edit ( rescue mode with the install disk) /etc/inittab
edit id:5:initdefault: to id:3:initdefault:
then change it back when the system is fixed
