The easiest way would probably be to use kppp. It had a very sensible default configuration. Just be sure to enter the telephone number, login name, and password, that were given to you by your ISP.
You will probably have to install Drivers for your modem as your distribution probably does not have it, visit this site and read up.....you should get the scanModem tool to which there is a link in the Status section http://www.linmodems.org
