Cygwin and VIM

Hi,

I am trying to learn bash scripting using Cygwin. I have also installed VIM in windows 98. I need windows 98 for a job that I'm doing now. My question is how can I call the VIM from the shell? I can write a script in VIM, save it and than open it in the shell. But I cannot open the VIM from the shell directly.

A second question would be:
How can I set a password as root in Cygwin?
