connecting to internet via satellite broadband


I have just loaded ubuntu and want to connect to the internet. We have an Ipstar satellite modem that connects through the network cable socket. Being the first time I have tried Linux I need some help. And please dont just say type in this or that, please tell me where and how to access the command line to type into or whatever cheers

All it is is a router I think. Open up a Terminal and post the output.
sudo ifconfig
sudo ifconfig -a

when you say open up a terminal....Where??How??. I haven't used linux before and don't know what you mean.

On the top left Applications => Accessories => Terminal

ahaa it gets interesting because I dont have a 'terminal' in the accessories list. What do I do now?

All versions of Linux have a terminal--it just is sometimes called something else. Look in all your menus for "terminal", "console", or something similar. It's there---trust us.

Another method is to enter ctrl-alt-F1 (or maybe F2 or F3). This will put you in terminal (command-line) mode.

Is the modem a device that connects to the cell phone network? (Not if it is really going to a satellite.) Also, who is the ISP (Internet Service Provider) that provides the connection?
