Config file and IEEE1394 module loading help needed

I am trying to get a external firewire hard drive to run with RH9. lspci shows that the firewire is present, but lsmod shows nothing that looks like a firewire module. I suspect that adjustments need to be made to a config file, but I...

1) don't know where said config file is, and
2) don't know what to do with it if I did.

Can someone kickstart this process for me.

Thanks in advance!
