Compiz Standalone w/ XFCE4 Panel Icons

Hello,

I have successfully installed Compiz and XFCE4 panel standalone and they are working flawlessly (compiz effects work, XFCE4 panel is working just fine).

However, one thing I do need help with is knowing which icon theme set I should use for my XFCE panel and XFCE menu.

Before this, I would install XFCE desktop with my setup, however I have removed XFCE desktop since then. Unfortunately many icons are missing from Thunar (file manager) and the XFCE Menu list for some categories or programs. Some exist, but not very many. They all show as white documents with a red X in the middle. Basically I would like to get some of these objects their own icons. How would I go about doing this?

Faenza is a popular theme. I prefer Shining Reprise myself as it shows up well in light or dark themes. You can find many icon themes at www.xfce-look.org Sort by highest rated and that will give you a good list.

Once you get some icon themes, unpack them and paste them into your home/.icons folder. The .icons folder will be hidden, so hit Ctrl+h in thunar while in your home folder to see hidden files/folders. If no .icons folder exists, create it and paste your icon themes in there unpacked. Once you do that, you can select the new themes from the Xfce settings manager under Appearance.
