Compaq Laptop with an inbuilt camera _ Not detected by Ubuntu 9.10


hi..
i am new to Linux, and have started using Ubuntu 9.10. everything seem to be in place except for the Web Cam. i think it is not being identified by my OS. i have tried Ekiga, but still of no use. i am using a Compaq Laptop with an inbuilt camera.

please can any one help to out of this ..

You need to provide useful details for help. Saying you've got a "Compaq Laptop", tells us nothing...what model? What have you tried, other than running Ekiga? Look at the output of "lsusb", and "dmesg", and see if you can spot the webcam being identified. Also, try to run a different program, like Cheese, to see if the webcam will work under a different app, which would tell you if the DEVICE isn't supported at all, or it's not supported under EKIGA.

Also, you may want to load the latest version of Ubuntu...the latest is 10.04, and you can get it from their website. Newer versions usually equal greater hardware support, and more bug fixes.
