change user groupid


I am trying to change the groupid for a user on my server from command line (because I am remotely telneted) and can't find any documentation on anything but using the GUI? can anybody tell me how to do that?

repeating you ... you simply want to change a users group to a different one? dunno if there's a proper wat to do it, but if there was all it would presumably do is...

1) edit /etc/passwd and change the GID for the user

2) chgrp -R *newGID* /home/user

you might also need to change the rights on their mail folder as well i guess
