cant boot usb stick created with portable linux

Hi,
I created a portable, live linux distro (kubuntu 8.10) on a USB flash drive using the "portable linux" software that creates a bootable USB stick from a .ISO image however it wont seem to boot from the USB. The computer comes up with an error indicating that no bootable operating system is present on the USB stick. I have had a look at the files on the USB stick and the following file casper-rw is present along with the directory "boot". In the boot directory are the files initrd.gz and vmlinuz and the "grub" directory whcih contains a nuber of files including menu.lst, default and grub.conf among others. Should any other files be present? Any help would be much apeciated.

Cheers.

There's a little bit more to it then just the files. Try using "unetbootin" to create your live linux usb stick. I've used it a whole lot and never had any issues. If you still have problems then most likely your computer isn't able to boot from usb drives or your usb drive is incapable of being used to boot.
