OK, download and install (the way I described before) this package: http://packages.debian.org/etch/linu...hnhalf.1-amd64

after the reboot, uname -a should say 2.6.24

OK, we're getting there
download and install this:
http://packages.debian.org/etch/wireless-tools
and then this (you don't have to reboot between installing these two packages):
http://packages.debian.org/etch-back...irmware-ralink

then check if the wireless network interface works using ifconfig -a

I hope you picked up some troubleshooting tactics in between...

I have to confess, I googled most of the things I told you to do, having no idea if they would work or not.

I don't know if you configured your network yourself, or if it just came up on reboot.
If the network just came up on reboot I sugest you read up on wireless network security.

yes i have picked some troubleshoot tips up but without you googling that stuff i would not have known what to look for
