Can anyone help me dualboot RHL 9 and Windows XP (already installed)
Hello.I am 50 percent windows and 50 percent Linux.I am a newbie and I am trying to dualboot Windows XP(already installed) and Red Hat Linux 9. Thanks to anyone who can help me!
I am new to linux and I just want to dual boot with an OS I like to expirement.
Ok, can you clarify in your first post you said "already installed"? Can you clarify what you mean by that are you saying that both windows and Red Hat are already installed, but you are having problems booting them? Or something else?

Well, if the machine does not even post then I don't see how you can install or run any OS.

Assuming that it does actually post, then I strongly recommend that you do not attempt to install Red Hat 9. Install something that us current and supported - there are literally hundreds of options. We can probably help you select something appropriate if you tell us what hardware you have Eg ram, cpu, hard disk space.
Why did you choose Red Hat? It just is very unusual for someone who wants to dual boot with XP and says they are a linux newbie to choose Red Hat for that purpose! It might help to know your needs. Also, what are this computers specs?
I now see that distro selection was discussed already. So what actually is the problem? Are you unable to burn the iso? Will the machine not boot from the cd? Something else?
Well Slax is nice but... OH...its for i486...AND THOSE WERE MY LAST 2 CDS AND ITS ONLY DISK 1 REDHAT AND DISK 2 *kicks computer*I can handle this...I has Drivedroid on my phone...I can use it to boot live or I can make a flashdrive

Pentium 4 1.8 ghz (strangely faster than the pack in celaron 2.9 2.4 ghz)
1.50GB of ram
genaric SoundBlaster compatible (SoundMAX)
Broadcom 440x 10/100 ethernet
nvidia geforce 8400 gs
those are the specs that I know of.
please don't yell at us. I really don't know how to help you. It is not at all clear to me what it is you want from you Linux installation and why you don't want to use any of the mainstream distros.

Ok, that should run pretty much any modern distro. Since you were interested in Red Hat, I suggest that you try CentOS 6 which is a free rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
