Hi,

what exactly is the problem? Does the machine post? Does it get to the boot loader (probably lilo)?

Cheers,

Evo2.

PS. Red Hat 9 is over 10 years old and unsupported. You really should reinstall with a current, supported OS.

No,I am new to linux and I just want to dual boot(with GRUB,not lilo) with an OS I like to expirement.

I already have windows xp and I would like to put Redhat 9 on it without destroying Windows

P.S. I would have gotten conectiva, and it in my opinion will run just like new on my Dell Dimension 2400

Ok, can you clarify in your first post you said "already installed"? Can you clarify what you mean by that are you saying that both windows and Red Hat are already installed, but you are having problems booting them? Or something else?

Well, if the machine does not even post then I don't see how you can install or run any OS.

Assuming that it does actually post, then I strongly recommend that you do not attempt to install Red Hat 9. Install something that us current and supported - there are literally hundreds of options. We can probably help you select something appropriate if you tell us what hardware you have Eg ram, cpu, hard disk space.

Why did you choose Red Hat? It just is very unusual for someone who wants to dual boot with XP and says they are a linux newbie to choose Red Hat for that purpose! It might help to know your needs. Also, what are this computers specs?

Hi,

I now see that distro selection was discussed already. So what actually is the problem? Are you unable to burn the iso? Will the machine not boot from the cd? Something else?

Hi,

please don't yell at us. I really don't know how to help you. It is not at all clear to me what it is you want from you Linux installation and why you don't want to use any of the mainstream distros.

Ok, that should run pretty much any modern distro. Since you were interested in Red Hat, I suggest that you try CentOS 6 which is a free rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

I just said that because Redhat 9 and conectiva 10 are the newest I know of with the old interface.

P.S. I didn't realize that I was yelling.
