Unhappy Can't get into Add & Remove programs Config Error

I would greatly appreiciate any help from anyone reading this post. I have run into a problem with trying to install a vlc player . First I read a lot of different ways to do it but I settled on a post by BillB called HOW TO: INSTALL SOFTWARE (the easy way) YDL6 I have had several problems. The first being It doesn't want to take the command for [Livna-Stable]. But that aside for awhile my more immediate problem is in my terminal I'm getting this error and because of it I can no longer get into my Add & Remove programs . This is the error
[root@localhost ~]# echo 'protect=1' >> /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-updates.repo
[root@localhost ~]# yum clean all
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Config Error: File contains no section headers.
file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/yellow-updates.repo, line: 1
'protect=1\n'
[root@localhost ~]#
Thanks for your time
Steve

I strongly suspect you typed ">" instead of ">>" and overwrote the file rather than appending to it. If I'm right, you'll see "1" if you run:
wc -l /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-updates.repo

If so, then you'll need to recover that file. If you can, get it from another YDL user/site; if not check if it's part of a package with:
rpm -qf /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-updates.repo

Good luck,
NVRAM

Thanks for trying to help. But I just gave up for now and deleted the whole operating system. I'm going to give it a try when I get my new wireless Keyboard and Mouse. the funny thing is everythig was working good but i'm a real novice when it comes to the Linux OS and I was just trying to load a Player so I could watch HULU old episodes from TV shows which take a Flash 9 or better.

Thanks Again
Steve
