Proxy error when using Add/Remove Programs

Hello to all!

Im quite new to using LINUX so please bear with me.

Recently. Ive managed to install an UBUNTU Studio 8.04 on an old machine - Pentium3, 3x128MB RAM, 32Mb videocard, and 8 gb of HD.

My problem is how can i bypass Proxy authentication whenever I used Add/Remove Programs? I want to install open office suite and I usually get connecting to the internet using our proxy.

hmmm me also new in linux, still learning and exploring. Am also looking for toturials for me to improve my linus knowledge.

This is a windows thing, ie , 'add/remove' are you on a works computer or one that has been passed on? Linux is free so you can reinstall at any time for no extra cost.
