Ok lets see;
What distro are you using?
Next
Plug in the adaptor
To enter the commands (please don't do it yet) you will need to open a terminal. It will be konsole or gnome-terminal or xterm.
Open the terminal and log in as root;
Code:
su
enter your root password and press enter;
lsusb
post the model of the usb adaptor, should have ralink somewhere, you only need to find out what model it is not the whole output of lsusb
another helpfull command is dmesg after you plug in the adaptor
sorry folks cant expect help if i dont give you all the info i have linux ubuntu 7.04 the cd with the drivers has ralink wireless drivers for gnu/linux on it and the actual dongle has edimax ieee 802.11g turbo mode wireless lan usb adapter
May work out of the box without having to install anything.
see if the interface shows up
sudo ifconfig
and
sudo iwconfig
then could be as easy as
sudo dhclient ra0
this may help; http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...tu&btnG=Search
this is so strange i have a full signal the computer has found my network but i cant get online with it the
sudo ifconfig does something i have a list of codes come up
sudo iwconfig also comes up with a list
sudo dhclient ra0 says no such device
ive also noticed there a blue swirling round the top right internet icon and if i click on my network there i get an error message and no connection im so close to a connection everything is there but the last thing im missing ive been at this pc all day now
As i have said i can see my home network showing up on the linux pc now and with a full signal youd think i would be online updating everything but when i click on my network name to connect i get and error box saying
