bout to throw in the towel for linus, flashplayer on firefox :(

I don't know what the deal is. Have installed the rpm in mandrake 10, have copied the two files to my firefox plugin directory, firefox says I have flashplayer installed. no luck. sigh. I'm sick of WinXP and microsoft, don't have the cash for OSX, so thought I'd try linux but it's obviously not even close to there yet for semi-clueless types like me.. Wish OSX would come out on intel.. thanks for any help.

That should work. Sorry to hear you have trouble. I use mozilla and the last time I installed flash I just got the file install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz and unzipped it and ran the flashplayer-installer script and it worked fine in mozilla. I also have shockwave going with crossover, which was also easy...

In the past I have done it much the same as you did... Copy the two files across... It also worked. Not sure what to suggest exept maybe downloading the tgz and running the script and see if it works then...

Ditto what amosf said.

Download the .tar.gz file. cd into the directory and tar -xvzf the file, now there should be a sub-directory called install_flash_player..... or something close. cd into that directory and there will be two executable files (ls --color will show them up) type sh xxxxxxx where xxxxx is the shorter of the two executable filenames. Then restart firefox and all should be well.

This is what works for me in slackware, hope it helps you. Post back if you didn't follow anything
