Black screen of death When starting X

I have installed Slackware 7.1 on an old box i have, everything went smoothly (after reading posts here to cure my probs) but now when trying to start X server all i get is a black screen. I have ran the xf86config command and set every thing up. I have looked and looked for answers but have found no solutions. Any advice would be great

Using XFree86 ATI Driver version 4.6
Unkown Graphics Controller detected
Unkown Chip Descriptor In BIOS : 0x3f3f0000
Unkown Video Adapter detected
Brooktree 476 or similar ramdak detected

Support for this adapter is Highly Experimental

I guess it helps to tell you the card is an ATI rage 128.

Pentium 233 mhz CPU
ATI Rage 128
Maxtor 10 gig HD
Samsung 8X Cd rom
32 MB Ram

So its pretty old, I couldnt get Slack 10.0 To install on it so thats why i went to an older version, I was hoping the release for that time would work a little better with the box.
