Belkin N300 wireless USB will not install properly. Works under Win 7, this thread. Downloaded the proper driver from the Realtek site. Chip set is RTL8192cu. Tried to install following instructions located on the community.linuxmint.com for executing *.sh file format. Does all kinds of unpacking then says error and messes up the Win 7 installation. New to Linux Mint Cinnamon 64-bit.
Hi jdkaye, thanks for the reply. I have to shut down this Windows boot and reboot into Linux. Means no wireless connection, so I will have to get back to you afterwards.
Hi jdkaye, thanks for the reply. I have to shut down this Windows boot and reboot into Linux. Means no wireless connection, so I will have to get back to you afterwards. Back again. No joy. Belkin N300 Router works fine with all my devices. Disconnected the wireless on my computer and installed a Belkin N600 USB. Works fine under Win 7. Same problem, no indication of being recognized by Linux. Realtek site says the same drivers are used.

Sorry but I don't understand your message. Is the firmware-realtek package installed or not?
Here's a description of the package:
Quote:
Description: Binary firmware for Realtek wired and wireless network adapters
This package contains the binary firmware for some Ethernet adapters with the RTL8111/RTL8168 chips
supported by the r8169 driver; and wireless network cards with the RTL8188, RTL8192, RTL8712,
RTL8723 and RTL8821 chips supported by the r8192_pci, r8192s_usb, r8712u, rtl8188eu, rtl8192ce, rtl8192cu, rtl8192de, rtl8192ee, rtl8192se, rtl8723ae, r8723au/rtl8723au, rtl8723be and rtl8821ae
drivers.
So I'd recommend you install this package if you've not already done so.
