The Belkin N300 is a WLAN router. What exactly are you trying to do?

Where exactly do you have problems?
Simple checklist:
1. Is the router connected to the modem and the power source?
2. Do you have the WLAN configured, following the instructions in the manual?
3. Does your computer have a WLAN device to connect to the WLAN router?
4. Are the drivers for that device loaded?
5. Have you configured that device using the Network Manager program?

lsusb command to see if it shows there.

ifconfig -a to see if it shows there.

See this page too. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743385

Did you try ndiswrapper?

I'm having trouble with this adapter too. It's like it was detected partially, so to speak, somehow it gets lost between lsusb and iwconfig.

I can see in dmesg that the usb dongle is detected (and that, previously, the driver is registered ok), as well it's listed in lsusb. But, it doesn't show up in ifconfig and it isn't detected by any piece of software that uses a wifi connection. BTW, the blue led on the dongle never lights up.

Any idea what can I try next?
TIA

PS: oh yes, it's not a hardware problem (I'm clarifying this because of the led never lighting up), the dongle is working ok when I use another non-linux operating system.

It would help if you post the output of
Code:
lsusb
when you have the device attached to the system.

Thanks for that. According to the USB ID database the device in question has a Realtek RTL8192CU chipset.
Most recent distribution should support that device out of the box, but, dependent on the distribution, it may be possible that additional firmware has to be installed.
Which distribution are you using?

Hey thanks for the fast reply.

I'm using the latest (13th) Mint distribution (linuxmint-13-cinnamon-dvd-64bit.iso). I've read somewhere that running under 64bit could be an issue, but it was just one post and not a general consensus.

You've given me a good idea. I'll download several other distros as Live CDs, 32bit just to be safe, and just plug it in and see what happens. Hopefully that will give me more info once I find a distro where this device works out of the box :-)
