Question Audio application help

Kindly help me with the applications that are required to be installed(from software manager) so as to play and record audio.

Actually, I have installed Linux Mint 10 and I could not listen to sounds(even startup sounds). When I got into the insight of this problem, I discovered that I do not have corresponding applications installed on my system.

Hello,

Linux Mint per default comes with an audio player, although I'm not sure which one (I think Rhythmbox). Why do you say you don't have the corresponding applications installed? What commands did you run and what made you come to the previous conclusion? If you don't even hear the startup sounds then I'm almost sure that you're missing either the drivers for you audio card, or your volume settings are incorrect (muted). Can you have a look at the sound preferences and see if you have your volume settings not muted and if you have an audio device listed in the Hardware tab?

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

That's most likely the reason why you don't have audio, your soundcard isn't being detected since you're probably missing the drivers for it. Can you post the output of
Code:
lspci
Kind regards,

Eric
