Changing username of your machine

Posted 07-19-2015 at 11:05 AM by Upendra Pratap Singh

Always use usermod command to change username or the properties of the user like UID etc.

Do not go for manual editing in /etc/shadow, /etc/passwd and /etc/groups file to change your username, password or UID etc.

It corrupts the entries so much so that you will not be able to access other disk partitions other than the one in which Ubuntu is installed. Also you will not be able to login as root.

Virus on Linux

This mode is meant only when everything is flawless in terms of data availability and its subsequent processing.

Also if one is not logged in as super user, then the effect of virus program remains localized to the current file system only.
