maybe should have started 2 threads for 2 questions, but here goes anyway. i'm running suse 9.1 with KDE desktop.
First question:
i'm running Kmail. i can send mail when i'm logged in as root, but when i log in as a normal user, i can't send mail. when logged in as either, i can download mail. any ideas? i would be inclined to think it's something to do with permissions, but i'm just guessing. i'm still a linux newbie.
Second question:
i'm trying to use apollon p2p with ares, openft, fastrack plugins. it was working very well until a day or two ago, now apollon tells me there is a problem loading giFT daemon. giftd in terminal returns:
the last thing i recall installing was nget for newsgroups but that didn't work either but that's another thread. i've tried removing packages for apollon, all the plugins and gift then reinstalled all of them, but they still didn't work. any ideas on this one?
any help for either of these problems is greatly appreciated.

I think it's rather a configuration issue. When you're root your kmail configuration is read from completely differnet location than when you're your normal user. Check it carefuly.

The error doesn't look good. Something was probably broken. Try reinstalling giftd. It should place all the files in the right places.
thanks mara. i got kmail working. you were right, it was just a configuration problem. i didn't actually find the problem, but i just created a new identity and deleted the old one, which fixed it. as for giFT, i've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling. the wierd thing is, i just had it working a couple days ago.
