Any advice before installing Ubuntu 19.19

Thank-you I did get big slow downs before I re-installed. It would take 3 minutes to shut down for example - now with a re-install it takes 12 seconds. But I think I treated the 1st install without due care. Seem to have the same problem with the opposite sex

My apologies for the delay. I do thank you all for your comments and directions and links. I will answer more fully in a short time. (I'm in the middle of moving to a newer, smaller caravan that my car can tow to my new location in Qld 1900 kilometres from here - so the computer is pretty hard to get at, as well as finding the time. But as soon as this computer is unpacked at the other end - my first priority will be to answer and continue this thread)
