ALT-GR key does not work

I am using a laptop with a german keyboard and just installed fedora 3.
I can't type the pipe symbol (|) on that machine because none of the
ALT-GR symbols work to get the special characters and the key to the left of the Z key on the lower left does > and < instead of the pipe as I know it does on the American keyboard.

Is there some workaround to get the pipe key to work?

Thanks.

Just a guess, but -- if you're using the KDE desktop -- you can select from a large number of possible keyboards. (I think there's a similar feature in Gnome.)

Anyhow, check to see which keyboard layout you're using, and change it as necessary.

You might also check the HCL section of these forums to see if your specfic hardware is listed. There might be some comments about keyboars settings there.
