Getting alt key status


Hey i am 5th sem CSE student and doing my Linux Console Based Editor Project using NCURSES library. Can any one sujjest me how to recognize alt key status through C for menu operations.

use the showkey command in the bash so u can get the ascii for press and release.....

AFAIK you can only read the status of the ALT key when pressed in combination with another key.
