Post Adding user and groups

Hi all,

Maybe the following questions are stupid, but this is a newbie forum after all, so let's just get started with it.

I'm running Fedora now, and I want to create a new user, specified in a certain group, with a specified home-dir.

Like this :

user: trix
pasw: pasw
name: John Doe
groups : trix, Doe

I also want to create a homedir /export/home0/trix for this user.

What I managed to do up untill now is this :

* created user trix, assigned a password and name (John Doe). The trix group was added.
* created a group called Doe

So, finally my questions :

* how do I add user trix to the Doe group ?
* how do I set a homedir for this user to /export/home0/trix ?

Thanks for your help !

Hi, and welcome to LQ ...

Well, if you had first created the group using
groupadd
and then the userd using
useradd
it would all have been easy :)

Now you'll need to:
useradd -g trix -G trix,Doe trix

:}

Cheers,
Tink

Or you could simply useradd, groupadd and go to /etc/group add your user on the group of trix, doe
