Adding secondary groups

Can anybody suggest a better way of adding or removing a user's secondary groups on the command line?

The obvious command is usermod and the -G option. However this requires a complete list of groups not just the one to add (or take away). This is less than convenient

Any thoughts?

Try " man groupadd " in the console, that might be what you want.
