Adding Paths in Redhat 8.0

I just installed Redhat 8.0, and I plan on using it for school, which will require writing Java programs. I have downloaded and installed the Java SDK from the Sun website. The thing is that I have to be in the SDK folder for the javac and commands like that to work. How do I go about adding that stuff to the path so javac for example will be a system-wide command? I am running KDE if that makes a difference. Thanks!

open /etc/profile
or /home/username/.bash_profile

add
PATH=$PATH:/path/to the bin directory/which has javac

it'll affect when u login next time

u can just . /etc/profile
or . /home/username/.bash_profile
without logging out/in
next time u log on, u don't have to do that again
