A few SuSE problems

Hi I have got a few problems with me SuSE install

First one was with the network card (nForce2) but the nvidia drivers sorted that out..

Next problem is me Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital card. It is detected but when playing anything wav, mps, videos or flash I get a lots of interference, playing a CD if perfect tho so I think its something to do with the suse drivers?

My final problem is with my AIW ATI Radeon 9800se. I can't get the ati drivers to install without messing everything up and I got to reinstall suse. ATM i am using VESA driver but I would like 3D.

I can live without the 3D but the sound is very annoying please help.

Thanks for all your help

Are you using the same software to play both Cds and MP3s? If not, it could be something in the software configuration (output plugin perhaps).

Installing a messed up video driver shouldn't mean needing to reinstall linux.
Are you installing it in X? That's not a good idea.
How are you changing which drivers Linux uses? After installing on SuSE you can run sax2 from the terminal and set up your X configuration there. With Sax it seems you have to reconfigure every component each time you run it, though...at least that's my experience.

I am using xmms for mp3s and kscd for cds, but the static noise it there all the time in all media apart from the cd.

I am installing the ati driver as the ati website states but when I reboot it fails to go back into the xwindows even startx don't work. I reinstall because I don't know anyother way to get back to the gui

hmm....I don't know much more to help.
Perhaps you're CDs are piping digital audio directly to the soundcard...this may explain why all other files sound bad. If this is the case, I'm guessing there's something up with your sound server or audio codecs? Just a wild guess, though.

Did you run sax2 before trying to go back into X?

I got the sound to work properly now I just turned on the digital output on the sound app, sorted

I haven't tried the ATI drivers yet will do soon tho

After solving the sound problem I developed another, now my network card doesn't work, just comes up as failed on start up Is there anything to do to find out the problem?
