SUSE 9.3 problems (mouse working incorrectly) and other problems

Well, my first introduction to linux came via SUSE linux 9.1 after a friend told me that my frustrations with computers (due to Windows XP) crashes, viruses etc. could be minimized if I used linux as my OS so I gave it a try on my laptop and it worked great.

I was so amazed by linux that I decided to purchase SUSE 9.3 (full version) and install it on my laptop. The installation went well but for some odd reason my touchpad mouse acts strange in SUSE 9.3 even though in SUSE 9.1 I didnt have any problems with it.

the problems that I have noted so far are that:

whenever I scroll around the screen sometimes the mouse thinks that I have pressed the pad twice (which acts as a double click) and programs are opened if I happen to have my mouse on top of an icon.

also whenever I click on the menu bar button to open it up it does not stay up and have to press on it several times for it to stay up so that I can access applications etc.

also whenever I scroll down a page and want to click on a link the browser thinks that I am still scrolling down the page.

the worst problem of all is that whenever I open up firefox and I am using it, whenever I move my mouse towards the left for some reason it thinks that I have clicked on the back button!!!

Another problem that I noted (not related to the mouse) is that even though I did a complete installation of SUSE 9.3 as soon as the desktop comes up I notice that on the task bar the speaker icon has an x on it and it says cannot find Kmix. Why does it say this???

To see if I can fix these problems I decided to erase my harddrive completely (by using a harddrive wiper) and do a fresh installation of SUSE 9.3

Info about my computer: I have a Winbook J4 green version laptop that has a touch pad mouse.

I used the DVD installer that came in the SUSE installation case, do you guys think that I should use the 5 CD's instead?? what do you recommend??

I am no authority however it seems that "lap tops" can be problematic with Linux in general. If SuSE 9.1 is working, I think I would stay with that issue. SuSE 10 will be out in a couple of weeks. Also, there are some problems/issues with 9.3 even with the set top boxes so be careful. Check out the ten pages and 143 posts here at:

May help you.
Good luck
