Question 5.1 Speaker Problems

i have a 5.1 speakers set .When i run this in my terminal
Code:
speaker-test -c6 -D plug:surround51
I get sounds from all the speakers but when playing any audi/video files i get sound only from Front two spaekers . i tried configuring it through sound control but the best i could do is have rear speakers for system sound and front for audio/video
But how to get all of them working

i use CentOS 5.3

are you pretty sure that your audio or video file support with 5.1 dolby or dts? By having just stereo file and you cant expect that output will be 5.1

I find this odd that this post only talks about speakers no name of them. centos 5 but no kernel name. problems with a sound device but no name of the card. problems with the sound mixer program but no version number of the program. pulse mixer settings? alsa mixer settings.? Alsa newest build for fcll and centos is suposed to be addressing problems that some cards may be having with this type of problem. do not forget pulse only reads alsa.

I have a weird problem and i have googled for it and didnt find the solution for it ,I use CentOS 5.3 and sound is fine
Code:

speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -twav

When i run the above code i get sounds from all my 5 speakers , so the drivers should be fine ! but when i play movies i get sound only from front two speakers i checked for this problem and i am not getting any solution and gave up
