Welcome to LQ.

Wu-ftpd is not well known for security so I would reccomend using vsftpd instead. Even with a more secure ftp server installed you should really use something more secure like scp if you want a root login.

Do you have anonymous in your ftpaccess file? You shouldn't be allowed to ftp as root ... I hope this is what you mean, or can you not login into the computer at all as root?

hehe, posted same time as david...

I totally agree, you should def not be using root to ftp. vs-ftpd is good, pro-ftpd is also pretty popular.

thanks for replies. By the way, i am just a newbie for Linux and WU-FTPD is enough. My main goal is, WU-FTPd should read the password file ( i think it is /etc/passwd ). If i logged as `user1` then, that user should be pointed to its proper directory which is /home/user1. Same thing with the other users. Root login is optional on my side.

thanks
