I'm a linux newbie and I use ubuntu. I tried Mandriva and the wireless works perfectly on that, but i still want to use ubuntu.
I can't get the wireless to work.
Can anyone write me a step-by-step guide how to fix it???
I have an Asus X51 and the wireless is Atheros ar5bxb63.
step by step? No, I don't think anyone here really wants to do that. But if you give me the output of iwconfig, lsmod and ifconfig, we might be able to figure out why you're having issues.

So, you're connected to the internet with a landline with a relatively large network at the time of posting ifconfig? At least, that's what i'm going to assume since you've got an ip. try this:
iwconfig eth1 up
Then you should be able to use the wireless network doohicky(technical term) in the upper lefthand corner of the desktop.
even if this works, please post iwconfig when you're up and running.
