Wireless Router Asus WL 500gp - external hard drive problems

Hello, I don't know is this is the correct forum but maybe you can help me in this situation.

I have a Wireless router Asus WL 500g Premium which has 2 USB ports. I have installed the Oleg firmware 1.9.2.7-7g in order to be able to download torrents, I also attached an external hard drive in the USB port. The external disc was working fine until it gave me this message on the system log.
Code:
Jul 21 22:06:14 kernel: hub.c: new USB device 01:03.2-2, assigned address 5
Jul 21 22:06:14 kernel: usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=5 (error=-71)
If I attach a normal USB pen it detects and works perfectly. I have checked the hard drive on a PC with partition magic and the partion has no errors. The hard drive is formated in ext3.

The same has happened before and the only solution at the the time was to format the harddrive, which i don't want to do again cos I have loads of files ( about 300 GB )

Thanks and regards,

Tmota
