I have been getting more and more used to using Linux and now I was wondering if there is a way to setup up the LAN so I can play games, only Quake 2 as of now, between the two computers. I can get Quake 2 running using WineX 3, however when I goto the multiplayer menu the Windows computer does not show up.
Do I need Samba installed even if I do not care about Filesharing? Or maybere there is something simpler that I can install to just get the games working?
Been a while but I think you just join game and specify the IP address in Q2 don't you? You must, of course, be running the same game version, last patch was 3.20 AFAIK.. BTW I suggest Eraser bots for practice. Fear the hyper blaster in thier hands.
Though I am pretty sure you can run Q2 in Linux natively just fine.
I tried goign to the console and just typgin connect and the IP f the other computer, but it just keeps trying to connect... It never actually connects. I installed the nForce drivers from nVidia(my network card is part of the motherboard), but still nothing...
Maybe I do need to go through with the whole Samba setup? I would think, though, if a server can be running Linux and a Windows computer can connect to it without any special software over the internet, the same would hold true over a LAN?
Also, I know you can natively run Quake 2 in Linux, however I believe the files are pretty large(for someone on crappy dialup), and I had WineX 3, so for now I figured that would work...
