i doubt this is possible the linux structure is more restrictive about permissions, etc. and I would consider this a HUGE security hazard - disgraceful, actually - to the development team.
But maybe I'm just wrong, and they figured a way around it.
i am running samba 2.2.7a. i havent read anywhere, nor can i find anywhere where i can see if you can do that in this version of samba. i have read that you can do it in samba version 2.0.4 with NT. I am running XP. if anybody knows anywhere where I can read up on this with this version of samba that would be great. thanks
Why would you want to change security permissions??? If you want to have full access to the samaba share then there is another way to do it Try installing webmin and set up samba from there, it's much easier.
when i say change security permissions i mean i want them to be able to change the permissions on their folders and files from windows. i have read you can do this but it doesnt show up in my windows machine. i just want my users to be able to change permissions to read, write, etc.......
I thought I had already posted this somewhere, but perhaps it was someone else asking the same question...
I doubt that you can do this the way you want to. Like cuckoopint said, it would be a huge security hole most likely. However, what you can do, if it's really necessary, is set up SSH on your network and then let users log in with SSH and chmod their files and directories as needed. It's less user friendly, but gets the job done.
I had this same issue. I have an NT domain that Samba RH8 connects to. The user on a WinXP box can add write permissions or other permissions to the files that they own via the Windows GUI.
However, when I upgraded (not clean install) to RH9 suddenly this was not possible.
