Why Nics Canceling SSH Comm.

*****I appologize for the length****
ok I started a project for myself to be able to remote into a server and then from be able to remote into network.

Starters
Running Fedora Core 4 <default package, no updates>
Compaq Proliant 3000 server
2x450MHZ P2
512mb
1xMirrored 8GB Partition 1xRaid5 25GB Partition

here's how the network is configured

Modem goes to hub.
hub splits into 2 lines
line 1 goes to NicA of Server
line 2 goes to router
From NicB is a line which goes to router

basically creating a box, then from behind the router is mini network.

so now I learned to 2 ways of remoting in. 1 method is choosing remote desktop from preferences within FC4, now this stop working when I activated the firewall. I understand that, I just need to specify the proper port.

Now the 2nd way was via a tutorial that basically creates a SSH connection, you remotely start vncserver and then connect via vnc <this is a lot easier cause I can just supply the ip of the nic w/ a :# versus a huge long string FC4 gave me>

now here is the problem If I have just NicA plugged in <line straight from hub> get on the net, can remote everything, but when I plug in NicB and restart. NicA gets IP from modem, B from router, but any sorta ability to remote in disappears, I can remote from behind network <via NicB> but no communication can occur on NicA

So my question is why is this happening, I understand that I could have just done port forwarding on my router, but I wanted the oppurtunity to learn linux + get server experience. So I chose to do it this way. I'm assuming there is just a setting I need to change but don't know where as I'm new to linux.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

It sounds like your routing table is incorrect when it doesn't work. Compare the output from "route -n" and "ifconfig" when it does and doesn't work.
