Website hangs when I access it. Why ?

I can't download anything from the Australian War Memorial Website ( http://www.awm.gov.au ). Not pdfs, not images. All transmissions hang up after downloading 32 - 64 k. This occurs with Firefox, Opera, Konqueror browsers. Other people I know use Windows and have no problem. I don't have problems with any other website.
I have a cable Internet connection (i.e. highspeed).
Can anybody suggest why this particular website should get blocked when I access it ? Anybody else have similar problem ? Suggestions how I can debug the problem ?
thanks
Rod

I can also access it fine, including downloading pdfs. Have you tried clearing your browser's cache? Worth a shot, at least.

You could try and download one of the files using wget, for example, to see if it's just the browsers or if it's your connection to the website that's the problem.

I get the same problem with wget and all the browsers so it looks like the connection itself. I found that with Opera I can download the whole file (e.g. a large pdf) if I click stop and continue many times - it downloads another 64k each time until complete. So it seems as if the website sends me some data and then waits for a response before it sends any more. I don't have problems with ftp or watching streaming video even on other sites. The problem appears to be with my computer, and only with this website, but how do I debug this ?
thanks
Rod

This is what I discovered : I use modem sharing to connect multiple computers to the internet via my USB cable modem. I used to use Firestarter as a NAT router for this. Then I switched to Shorewall - I can't remember why. Since then I couldn't download anything from the awm.gov.au website. I swiched back to Firestarter for modem sharing and no more problem.
So - I wonder what it is about Shorewall ? Or maybe I ended up with a corrupt iptables, and restarting Firestarter has fixed up iptables ? But why did I have a problem with 1 website out all the hundreds I access ?
