Wap Gateway

Hi,

This time I am working on setting own WAP gateway. I have searched on Net and found project "kannel" which is an open source wap server.

I have a mobile handset which service provider don't allow me to browse sites other than his own.

I think setting a wap gateway to my Pc ( connected to internet ) can allow me so. Can any one guide me on this ?

How I can configure my pc as a wap-gateway ?

I downloaded source tarball from kannel site and tried to make. But in process "./configure" this gives an error "You must have libxml2 (aka gnome-xml) installed." so I am unable to install that.

Thanks,
Kirtimaan.

Hi,

Sorry I forgot to mention that I have installed libxml2 and libxml2-devel packages. But still kannel gives that error during ./configure execution.

Thanks,
Kirtimaan

If you want just a wap server you can configure apache to do this. It's so easy as adding a few mime-type definitions:
Code:
text/vnd.wap.wml .wml
image/vnd.wap.wbmp .wbmp
application/vnd.wap.wmlc .wmlc
text/vnd.wap.wmls .wmls
application/vnd.wap.wmlsc .wmlsc
Then create .wml pages and apache is ready to serve them (after you restart it of course).
As for the error you mention run "./configure --help" to see if you can define the location where you installed libxml2-dev for the ./configure script.

Regards

Hello bathory,

Thanks for your reply. But that isn't what I want to do. I have already done that.

I want to access internet over my mobile phone using my <b>Linux PC</b> through GPRS/WAP. I want to set my PC as a GPRS / WAP server and then would like to set my mobile to use my own WAP gateway.

Thanks,
Kirtimaan.

How did you installed libxml2, libxml2-devel? By default it should go under /usr/lib, /usr/include etc. Can you run
Code:
xml2-config --version
xml2-config --prefix
and post the output here.
