VSFTP config help needed
I'm definitely a Linux Newbie.
I've just built a RedHat 8 box to be used as and FTP server. This is a console-only machine, I've installed no GUIs. The box is hardened with Bastille Linux, and no unnecessary daemons are running.
I have VSFTPD 1.2.0 installed and running. I understand the vsftpd.conf file, and I understand the relationship between vsftpd and xinetd.
I have two or three accounts set up for local users, but I have some questions before I open a hole in the firewall and make the server available.
First, I'm not allowing anonymous FTP at all. This box is for a few clients to upload large graphics to. Can I create "FTP Only" user accounts for invited FTP users to log in with?
Second, I want these users to be able to upload, see the files they have uploaded, but not be able to delete the files they've uploaded. Also, I don't want them to be able to see files others have uploaded. (Perhaps a separate upload folder for each FTP user?)
Next, I need to have one or two users on my local LAN be able to see and manage the uploaded files, but not have root to the whole box.
Finally, there is one privileged FTP user who needs to be able to see and download all the uploaded files.
I hope this makes sense. I'm and NT/MCSE guy, but I don't like IIS so I thought I'd give Linux a try for this server. I've really learned a lot building it.
Thanks.
