Hello all. i'm a Linux noob running Fedora Core 3. I'm having a big problem with setting up VNC server on here. I'm behind a router which i enabled ports 5900 thru 5912 TCP also the firewall is disabled on Fedora. I'm trying to connect from my other PC which is XP pro. I'm using VNC Enterprise for the XP. In the services for fedora it says that it is running, but i really don't understand the types of displays to setup and so on. When i try to connect from xp to fedora i get a 10061 error.
I would really appericate it if someone "Held my hand" for this particular subject. Thank you for your time on this matter.

*****I was able to finally connect, but when i log in from my Xp machine i get a big grey screen, and a small terminal window? anybody know how to fix that? please let me know thanks again. *************12 B

did u use the vnc server built into fedora? if so, the free tight VNC client works well

If you want to remote control you PC
Then under System Tools, you find Desktop Sharing.
Hit the Configure button
I use the following options (security is not my primary concern on this machine)
Access:
- Allow uninvited connections
- Allow uninvited connections to control the desktop.

Network:
- Port: 5900

On Fedora Core1 and 2, it was not an option to allow uninvited connections... This has changed in Fedora Core 3

Else if you are setting up a terminal server for multiple users, then I apologize for the waste of time.

I'm going to try that TightVNC tonight. I never heard of it before so i'll let you now how it is. Does that desktop sharing need to be enabled always if i use Tight VNC? Thank you for your time on this matter.

yes, because tightvnc is just the client like enterprise vnc, but it works with the desktop sharing in FC3, unless something on one of your machines is screwed up

Would you know how to install this? will tightvncserver conflict with the built in vncserver? Also i notice when i configure the desktop sharing, in regular user mode and when i log in as well as regular but use the root password it goes back to the default settings and i am not able to get in still. I haven't had time to look at my Linux Bible book because i'm concetrating on my classes. Thanks a lot for your time on this matter.

You need to edit your vnc settings for that user. Open your ~/.vnc/xstartup file and uncomment the lines:
