virtual interfaces SuSE 9.0

how do i specify my ethernet card to listen or act as more than one ethernet/virtual card. I know that the physical card must have a static IP itself, but I don't know how to add a virtual interface or where to edit a configuration for this.

example:

eth0 -xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(physical)
eth0:1-xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(virtual)

I've searched around but have had no luck.
