USB modem on linux

Dear all...

I'm deciding to install Redhat linux 7.2 on my PIII-733 but i realised that my USB D-link DSL-200 modem is not supported on linux. I've also read somewhere on the net about something called Abstract Control Model which can help????

I'm really interested in giving linux a try, however I do not wish to have it as a standalone... I really hope someone could give me advice on how to get my modem to work on linux.

I have a feeling this modem uses the alcatel chipset, but officially won't work. Check out

And read their FAQ's (don't have link stored). Note these are two different ways of getting the alcatel to work, one of the FAQ's, may be linux-usb says something about d-link modems.
