usb modem not working for linux

I Cant get my usb ADSL modem to work with linux. I have tried Mandrake, Ubuntu, SimplyMepis, DSL and... Knoppix. I think the problem is my motherboard, when I format my hard drive, I need to install the motherboard drivers CD before my usb ports will work in Windows XP. Now that is the problem, the motherboard drivers CD is only for windows, not Linux. My motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VM400M-RZ and I have a D-Link DSL-200 usb modem.
Any help would be awesome. Thanks, Mick.

In general, USB modems do not work in Linux. You need to use it with the ethernet port if it has one or get another DSL modem.
