Exclamation Trying to get CentOS4.3 to print on a Windows XP Pro Network

Sorry if this is a repeat of another post, but after searching I didn't find my senario...

I am currently running a Windows XP SP2 Network in my home.... just built and using a Linux Centos4.3 box right now (posting from the said machine at the moment) and here's my delima...

I've gone to my windows box & set up and allowed printing from a Unix system, added networking for same, and made sure that all services were enabled...
Then i go to this machine and went through all the motions...adding a new print queue, added the print queue name, choose the Networked Windows SMB, and when I get to Authentication... that's when I get hung up.
I've added in the Workgroup to which all the other computers in the house goto to see the printer, used the same Server name as the other systems, left the user name as GUEST, and then gave it the password needed to access the printer.....

After doing all of that it keeps popping back with the AUTHENTICATION window as is something is wrong and I can't get passed it.

I know I'm missing something real easy here, but I just can't seem to figure it out....

I would appreciate any help that all of you LINUX pro's can give.

Thanks.....the sooner I get this set up the sooner I can stop using my WINDOWS boxes an dlet my family deal with then...HA HA HA HA

Did you use http://localhost:631 to bring up the cups web interface?
Quote:
Next, in the CUPS web interface, configure your printer as described previously. You will notice that CUPS has added another driver called Windows Printer via SAMBA. Select it and use the smb://usernameassword@workgroup/server/printername or smb://server/printername syntax for the URI.
... from: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printin...o.xml#smb-cifs

It's actually easier to use the centos machine as a print server for windows...

Ok... I tried using CUPS http://localhost:631/printers, as you first suggested and I keep running into this issue....

Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
"Connection failed with error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL"

I've gone back into the "manage printers" link and reconfigured the user name and password thinking that this was my problem... and it may still be, but I still can't seem to get this computer to print to my main Windows Tower.

I'm sure it's a configuration issue either at this CentOS box, my Window XP Box, or both.

I do have my XP Box set up as a Workgroup and the other WIndows boxes are using the same passwords that I'm trying to use on this Linux Box to get access to the same printer.

Any other help would be greatly appreciates...

(As a side note.... I can't move my printer(s) to this box as I have no room to do so....desk is too small.)

The windows network printer is detected - but the print server ain't accepting any jobs?

Check /etc/cups/printers.conf

Some observation on this issue in another forum:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/lin...-problems.html

And these from LQ:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...accepting+jobs.

Have fun.

Most people seem to have neglected to add the unix print services... and normally it is a windows print-server problem.
